By now, we all know that Gallop Extension is the darling of pre/post-wedding shoots in Singapore and for good reason. Those black-and-white bungalows and white arches are timeless, and you’ll spot them all over our feed too. No hate here; we love a Gallop shoot as much as the next couple. We even included it in our recommended shoot locations in Botanic Gardens.

But here’s the thing. Singapore is full of quieter corners that almost never make it onto a couple’s shortlist, and so many of you are missing out on locations that feel just as romantic and a whole lot more you. The retro playground you grew up climbing on. The empty new flat where your life together is about to begin. A coastal boardwalk so still it could pass for somewhere overseas.

So if you’re dreaming up your pre or post-wedding photoshoot and want something a little off the beaten path, you’re in luck. We’re sharing 10 of our favourite underrated spots across the island, the kind of places where our photographers love to slow down, let you settle in, and capture the moments that feel honest and beautifully framed. Let’s get into it.

1. Dragon Playground

Romantic picnic setup on lush green lawn with white blanket and wicker basket.

If you and your partner are after something nostalgic and unmistakably Singaporean, the heritage Dragon Playground at Toa Payoh Lorong 6 is a little gem. Built in 1979 and lovingly preserved, its terrazzo mosaic scales and that iconic dragon head against a sandpit make for the kind of warm, retro-toned frames that feel like a page out of an old family album.

There’s a sweet, playful energy to a shoot here: think kampung spirit, soft afternoon light, and a backdrop that quietly nods to childhoods spent across the void deck. It’s perfect for couples who don’t take themselves too seriously and want their photos to feel like home. (Prefer the sandpit version? There’s another beloved dragon at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 too.)

Good to know:  It’s a public heritage playground, so entry is free. Just be mindful of families and little ones using it. Weekday mornings are quietest if you’d like the dragon to yourselves.

2. Peranakan Houses

For something vibrant and editorial, the pre-war Peranakan terraces along Koon Seng Road in Joo Chiat are hard to beat. Pastel facades, ornate fretwork, and hand-painted ceramic tiles give every photo a pop of colour and old-world charm you simply can’t recreate elsewhere. Stand your couple against a powder-blue shophouse and watch the whole frame come alive.

A couple walks together along a peaceful lakeside path surrounded by trees and nature.
A covered walkway with ornate columns and benches creates a romantic garden setting.

If Koon Seng Road feels too familiar, the heritage streets of Blair Road, Everton Park, and Emerald Hill offer the same gorgeous architecture with their own distinct palettes.

Good to know:  These are residential streets, so do keep noise down and be considerate of the people who live here. Early mornings give you the softest light and the fewest passers-by in your shots.

3. Your BTO

Panoramic view of historic white colonial buildings with red roofs set against green landscape.

This one is for the sentimentalists. Before the contractor moves in and the boxes pile up, your empty BTO is one of the most meaningful and underrated places you could ever shoot. Bare walls, sunlight pouring through the windows, the two of you standing in the middle of a space that’s about to become your whole life together. It doesn’t get more personal than that.

We love these sessions because there’s nothing to perform. It’s just you, your partner, and the quiet excitement of a beginning. Whether we catch you mid-laugh with the keys or simply sitting on the floor of your future living room, these are the documentary-style frames you’ll treasure long after the renovation is done.

Good to know:  Shoot before renovation for that raw, light-filled emptiness, or after for a styled, lived-in feel. Best of all, it’s your own home, so there’s total privacy and zero permits.

4. Ngee Ann City Rooftop

Wedding celebration in a bright greenhouse with natural lighting and hanging plants.
Couple in white outfits embracing in urban parking area with tall building backdrop.
A couple sits on the floor under a covered structure, the woman in white smiling warmly as her partner leans close behind her.

Hidden in plain sight on Orchard Road, the rooftop carpark levels of Ngee Ann City have quietly become a favourite among content creators, and they make a stunning pre/post-wedding backdrop too. Up here you get a wide open sky, clean concrete lines, and a sweeping view of the Orchard skyline that turns molten at golden hour. It’s minimalist, a little cinematic, and refreshingly different from the usual greenery.

If your style leans modern and editorial, with flowing fabric against an urban horizon and that “runaway princess in the city” energy, this is your spot. There’s something about all that openness that lets a couple breathe and move freely in front of the lens.

5. Singapore Zoo

Garden pond with lily pads surrounded by greenery and brick borders.

Hear us out: the Singapore Zoo is one of the most joyful, unexpected places for a couple shoot. Tucked into the lush Mandai rainforest, it’s bursting with greenery, dappled light, and plenty of whimsy. And if you’re lucky, you might just score a once-in-a-lifetime cameo from an orangutan or a flamingo in the background of your frame.

This is the spot for couples who want their photos to feel fun and full of personality rather than posed and polished. Wander, laugh, chase the light between exhibits, and we’ll capture the in-between moments that make the day feel like a proper date. To add to the sentimentality of the place, our couple here chose the zoo in particular because it was the site of their very first date.

Good to know:  You’ll need admission tickets, and the zoo has its own guidelines for shoots, so do check their photography policy ahead of time, as a professional or styled session may require approval or a permit.

6. Changi Bay Point

Romantic garden photoshoot with soft pink bokeh effects and natural lighting.

Tucked away at the far eastern tip of the island, Changi Bay Point feels like a little secret. Its 140-metre boardwalk hugs the coastline, framed by swaying lalang grass and uninterrupted sea views, so quiet and unhurried it could honestly pass for somewhere overseas.

Come at sunrise and you’ll be rewarded with soft pastel skies, a cool sea breeze, and the occasional plane drifting low overhead. It’s serene, cinematic, and worlds away from the city, exactly the kind of stillness our photographers love working with.

Good to know:  Have your driver drop off here rather than at the Changi Bay Point connector, so it’s just a 5-minute walk to the shoot spot.

7. Pan Pacific Hotel & Restaurant

Romantic garden photoshoot with soft pink bokeh effects and natural lighting.

Here's one that hands you two completely different backdrops under a single roof: both the hotel and its restaurant at Pan Pacific Singapore are a dream to shoot in. The hotel itself is an architectural showpiece, with its soaring atrium and tiers of curved balconies creating sweeping, symmetrical lines that draw the eye straight to the two of you. Then, tucked on the fourth floor, Keyaki Japanese Restaurant opens onto a beautifully sculpted Japanese garden, complete with a koi pond, weeping willows, and Shoji screens, that feels like a quiet corner of Kyoto without ever leaving Marina. Sleek and modern one moment, serene and storybook the next.

A spot like this rewards intentional framing, and it's where our editorial instincts really get to play. Whether we're working those clean architectural lines in the atrium or nestling a couple beside the koi pond, the setting does half the storytelling for you.

Good to know: Do check with the hotel and restaurant first on whether you're able to shoot there.

8. Bukit Timah Railway Station

Two people lean out of a yellow vintage train car on railway tracks surrounded by lush greenery.

For couples who love a bit of history and old-world romance, the beautifully restored Bukit Timah Railway Station is a treasure. Built in 1932 and reopened as a heritage gallery, it has kept all its nostalgic charm: original station signs, token poles, and old railway wagons sit alongside lush new gardens. Just up the tracks, the green truss bridge over Bukit Timah Road adds that rustic, time-stood-still backdrop.

There’s a gentle, unhurried mood to this place that lends itself to tender, storytelling frames: the two of you strolling the old platform, pausing by the gardens, letting the history settle around you.

Good to know:  The easiest way in is via King Albert Park MRT, Exit A, about a 5-minute walk. There’s no carpark at the station node, so public transport is your friend. The Rail Corridor is open 24/7 but unlit at night, so plan to wrap up before dusk.

9. East Coast Park

Bride and groom holding hands walking along a sandy beach with calm ocean waves in the background.

Everyone knows East Coast Park, but few think to use it for a pre/post-wedding shoot, and the quieter stretch around Carpark E2 is exactly why they should. With its leaning casuarina and coconut palms, breezy seafront, and that endless golden-hour glow off the water, it’s effortlessly laid-back and romantic. No grand architecture, no fuss. Just the two of you, the sea, and the light.

This is the spot for easy-going couples who want their photos to feel warm and natural. Lay out a mat, kick off your shoes, and let us catch the candid, sun-soaked moments as they unfold.

Good to know:  Aim for golden hour through sunset for the best light off the sea. It pairs beautifully with a little picnic setup, and there’s parking right at the E2 zone so you won’t have far to walk.

10. Your Alma Mater

Two students play outside Xinmin Primary School, a pink building with a covered entrance in Singapore.

We’ve saved the most personal for last. Returning to the school where it all began (your old primary, secondary, JC, or uni) makes for some of the most moving frames we ever capture, especially for couples who first met within those very walls. The long corridors, the field, that one classroom: each carries a memory, and standing in it together as you’re about to marry is a full-circle moment that words can’t quite reach.

These shoots are documentary at heart. There’s no need to pose when the place itself is doing all the storytelling. We simply follow the two of you as you wander, remember, and fall a little more in love with where you started.

Good to know:  You’ll need the school’s permission to enter and shoot, so reach out to them in advance. Weekends and school holidays tend to be easier to arrange and far quieter.

Bonus Tip

Wedding ceremony in an elegant white arched hallway with classic architecture.

Unlike a single garden, these gems are scattered right across the island, so a little planning goes a long way. Pick two or three spots that flow well geographically, or that genuinely mean something to your story, rather than racing from east to west in one afternoon.

And do tell your photographers the why behind each location — the playground you grew up on, the flat you’re about to move into, the school where you first met. The more we understand what a place means to you, the better we can frame it. Once you’ve got your shortlist, let us help you map out a route that’s realistic for the time you’ve set aside.

Whether you pick the nostalgia of a dragon playground, the stillness of Changi Bay Point, or somewhere closer to your own heart, what matters most is choosing a place where you and your partner feel completely at ease. That comfort is where the best, most honest photos come from — and these underrated spots have a way of bringing it out.

And once you’ve found your location, do consider engaging NKP as your photographers and videographers. We’d love to show you our favourite hidden nooks, share a few tips from past shoots, and help you tell your story in a way that’s unmistakably yours.
